Ahlsort – the DFSORT-compatible sort utility for Unix
Ahlsort is a full function generic sort, merge and data manipulation utility that runs on Windows and Unix platforms. It sorts all data formats and record types, provides general purpose record level processing for file and data conversions. All of these functions are optimized for maximum performance.
The Ahlsort command set is compatible with SyncSort, DMExpress and DFSort. This reduces training and conversion costs making it a viable, low cost alternative to these products.
ITGAIN is the European Distribution and Level one Partner for Ahlsort.
What are its features?
It is fully compatible with DFSORT, the IBM sort utility for z/OS
- same sorting logic
- same control commands
(ALTSEQ, INCLUDE/OMIT, INREC/OUTREC, MERGE, OUTFIL, SORT, SUM) You can find the complete reference manual here.
All of these benefits make Ahlsort an excellent choice as a sort substitute
when migrating or re-hosting sort operations.
Migration: Porting applications to a new platform. This usually involves changing the source code of programs, which is also referred to as re-writing.
Rehosting: Carrying over applications to a new platform without changing their source code. The applications run in a host environment and behave in the same way as on the legacy system.
Filesize: Files of more than 4 GB in size can be processed.
How can Ahlsort be used?
- As a native Unix command: (example für Unix)
- Transparently embedded in our JCL interpreter, J2U.
Here an example call from J2U.
